The house was built in 1940 by Robert A. Ross, a highly respected Neiman Marcus executive, VP, and board member from 1918-1962. The Ross estate adjoined, 4 other estates that were developed by Herbert Marcus, a co-founder of Neiman Marcus department stores. This parcel of land had been in the family since 1923. Herbert built his fine Tudor on Westlake in 1927, his son Stanley the Icon behind the success of Neiman Marcus, built his landmark modern home in 1937, close Marcus family friend and business associate Alfred Bromberg built his Landmark O'Neil Ford home in 1939. The history abounds! Both the Stanley Marcus house, and the Alfred Bromberg house are so historically important, they are protected city of Dallas Landmarks.
This expansive Old World country manor house exudes light from all sides into all of the living spaces, on all three stories. The pictures speak for themselves, all rooms are big, and bright, exuding quality, and architectural thought. The house offers 5 bedrooms, or 4 with an office, and 5.5 baths, along with three expansive living areas and three dining areas. A 7 figure renovation was completed in 1997, with some covered space captured, and an oversized brick 3 car garage with a full apartment above was built.
This 85 year old country manor estate was surrounded by the country when established, now it is the country surrounded by the city. As you walk the property it gently slopes, and as you get to the spring fed pond at the bottom you are walking in your private forest complete with 60' Magnolias, Cottonwoods, Oaks, Cedar Elms, and more. This is a rare 1-of-a-kind!
